An expert in positive psychology in education, Patty O’Grady’s book, Positive Psychology in the Elementary School Classroom (2013), W.W. Norton & Company, New York, is a foundation, pioneering work in the field with more than 5,000 citations in national and international academic journals. O’Grady’s research and writing focuses on the neuroscience of positive psychology, intrinsically motivated learning, the emotional correlates of accomplishment, and the affective teaching taxonomy of emotional-social learning. Her work was most recently featured in the Association of Supervision and Curriculum (ASCD) Newsletter, Education Update, in an article entitled, "Chasing Happiness." She is frequently interviewed by national publications on various positive psychology topics. Dr. O’Grady is frequently an invited presenter and a keynote speaker at professional conferences. Her recent talks include a Keynote at the International Conference on Research Advances in Resilience during the Pandemic: Drive for Innovative Transformation, NSHM Knowledge Campus, College of Health Science, Kolkata, India. Dr. O’Grady has also presented at the Learning and Brain Conference (2014, 2017) sponsored by Harvard, Yale, and Johns Hopkins Universities, delivered a Keynote at the International Young Child Expo (2017) sponsored by Fordham University, and presented at the American Psychological Association (2017). Dr. O'Grady has published numerous articles in academic journals including in New Horizons for Learning (Johns Hopkins University) and the National Teaching and Learning Forum (Jossey-Bass), Gifted Education International (Sage), and more, with invitations to publish from numerous prestigious academic professional journals in education and psychology. On a local level, O’Grady is currently conducting research on mindfulness for the Hillsborough County School District (HCSD) with other HCSD research proposals in progress. She is also a frequent contributor to other public scholarship such as Education Week, an influential newsletter in the field.
